Some of our members recently published a paper in Frontiers of Veterinary Sciences on the first report of an oral vaccine against African swine fever. The vaccine conferred 92% protection against challenge with a virulent ASF virus isolate. Although further studies should assess the safety of repeated administration and overdose, characterize long-term shedding and verify the genetic stability of the vaccine virus to confirm if it could be used for free-ranging wild boar in ASF control programs, it is a promising results! The paper is freely available on the journal website and in our Dissemination page.
